Hronský Beňadik

In 1075, the King of Hungary, Geza the first established an Abbey in Hronsky Beňadik. Its masters were the Benedictine monks from Burgundy. Along with Christianity, they brought a wine making tradition and were instrumental in its development in this region.

1. written record

The first mention of the wine from Čajkov being sold appears in the Book of Numbers from 1526 in the town of Banska Stiavnica.

Čajkov and Matej Bell

Wine from Čajkov was also known to Matthias Bel (1684-1749). He claimed it was the best in the Tekov County. At that time it was one of the most expensive wines in the whole country.

Great grandfather Vincent Uhnák

The great grandfather of our great grandfather, Vincent Uhnak built a wine shack in Močiarno in 1912. The building, though reconstructed, still stands today. And the proof of it’s age is carved into one of the original oak beams.

Socialization of agriculture

Despite nationalisation which started in the 1950’s during socialism, the vineyards in Čajkov were not affected and they remain in their original character even today.

Our first cellar

In the summer of 1998 we dug our first cellar in the family garden. We built it and filled it with modern plastic containers and in the autumn with the first harvest.

The largest wineyard Kruhy

In May 2008 we planted our largest vineyard, Kruhy. In just four days we put over 60,000 plants in the almost exclusively tuff soil. Just a day after we had finished the plants got rained on and therefore almost all of them rooted well.

A major breakthrough

A major breakthrough for our company came in 2010. This was the first year that we did not have to buy any grapes from other suppliers and we were able to make all our wine from our own vineyard. We had reached the goal that we set for ourselves at the beginning of this journey.
